Let’s all take a moment to mourn this dude who was savagely burned when he slid into a girl’s DMs

Some pickup lines are an ironic and endearing ode to a person’s quirky sense of courtship. Others are just blatantly gross, shallow and misogynist. And then there are those pickup attempts that fall somewhere in the middle on the Courtship Douchebag scale.

Nicholas Pallone, a 19-year-old from Dacula, Georgia, recently slid into a girl’s Twitter DMs and valiantly attempted the world’s cheesiest pickup line: he told the girl that he believed there were only 21 letters in the alphabet, even though his friend thought there were 23.

When the woman corrected him, Nicholas replied, “Hm. I must have forgot U R A Q T.”

Uggggggh. Gag me.

(In case you’re not getting it, he’s telling her “You are a cutie.”)

Fortunately, the girl in question wasn’t about to buy such tomfoolery. She replied with a pretty baller response: “B Y E.”

Apparently, this sort of attempt isn’t abnormal for Nick.

“When I’m bored every now and then I’ll slide in a DM and use a corny pick-up line” he tells BuzzFeed. “Usually the girl will literally say ‘wtf’ and block me, which can be demoralizing. But sometimes they’ll laugh and I guess that would count as some luck.”

However, this is definitely the first time a girl has responded with such a clever rejection.

“I died laughing because usually none of the girls reply with something that creative,” he says. “I was definitely flabbergasted.”

Not one to hide from his failures, Nick proudly shared screenshots of the conversation to Twitter.

People were like, “Do you need some ice, bro?”

Several people thought that Nick shouldn’t give up, though, and believed that the pickup line was bound to work someday.

However, other people politely reminded him that maybe he should just cool it with the random Twitter propositions.

I hope you eventually find what you’re looking for, Nick: a lady who appreciates terrible pickup lines just as much as you do.
