Pink’s story about crying with a fellow mom in the grocery store is hitting home for a lot of people

Pink may be a celebrity, but that doesn’t mean that she’s got this whole motherhood thing down pat. In fact, the singer takes great pride in being up front about her flaws and “failures” as a mother. She once posted an Instagram photo of her daughter, Willow, riding a bike indoors, along with a caption which reads, “Yeah my kid rides her bike inside. Without clothes. And helmets. While I ignore her and look at my phone. #failingbeautifully.”

This sort of unpolished honesty about the realities of parenthood has proved to be refreshingly honest for many people — who, in all likelihood, are tired of the seemingly perfect Instagram moms who apparently bake/cook constantly, exercise for two hours a day, and somehow juggle four children.

On Thursday, Pink tweeted out a short anecdote about an encounter she recently had at the grocery store, in which a woman told her how much she values her candidness and vulnerability in regards to being a mom.

Pink said the woman told her “some nice words about how she gets strength from my parenting ’cause I’m not afraid to f*ck up in public,” and reminded mothers everywhere how important it is to empathize with other moms.

The story resonated with other moms, who came forward to offer their own words of appreciation.

Moms have a hard enough job without strangers criticizing them or shaming them. Let’s all work on being a bit more empathetic, shall we?
