Demi Lovato shared an empowering message about her eating disorder while embracing her body at the beach

She may feel insecure but Demi has come too far to not show off the results.

Demi Lovato took to her Instagram to show people that it’s possible to overcome an eating disorder and love your body.

She’s been very open about the struggles she has faced in life, and having an eating disorder was one of them. “So, I’m insecure about my legs in this picture but I’m posting it because I look so happy and this year I’ve decided I’m letting go of my perfectionism and embracing freedom from self criticism,” Demi captioned the photo. “Learning to love my body the way it is is challenging but life changing. Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life but I work every day towards solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes.”

The 25-year-old singer previously touched on the subject in her YouTube documentary Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated.

Eating disorders aren’t easy to recover from. It takes a lot of time and patience for one to rebuild a healthy and loving relationship with food and their body. Demi has proven that it’s possible to come out of it and live a healthy lifestyle.

She’s not only been diagnosed with an eating disorder, but with bipolar disorder and had an addiction for drugs and alcohol. Since deciding to turn her life around, Demi has worked hard to overcome the struggles and love her body, and is putting it all out there to show others that they can do the same. “I’m on a journey to discover what it’s like to be free of all demons,” she revealed in the documentary.

“When I’m comfortable in my own skin, I feel confident. When I feel confident, I feel sexy. When I feel sexy, watch out,” she added.
