Cole Sprouse is no stranger to calling out his fans. He even created an Instagram account called Camera Duels, which is dedicated to snapshots of fans trying to not-so-subtly take photos of him.
So, it should really come as no surprise that he put a girl on blast for attempting to google him while he was standing right behind her in line.
Yesterday, Cole was apparently standing in line at an ice cream shop in Hawaii when 19-year-old Janani Krishnan-Jha recognized him, and attempted to surreptitiously look him up on Google to confirm her suspicions.
And if she thought Cole wouldn’t notice …
… well, he did. And he shared the whole thing in his Instagram story. (Including his reaction.)
It wasn’t long before fans on Twitter noticed, and were immensely entertained by the hilarious encounter.
Fortunately, Janani weighed in with her side of the story.
“I was waiting in line when I turned around and saw someone who looked eerily like Cole Sprouse,” she tells BuzzFeed. “I almost told him he looked a lot like Cole Sprouse, but then I realized that it might actually be him. Because I wasn’t 100% sure yet.”
“I decided to turn around and google the name quickly. (I actually googled Dylan Sprouse first, so I hope he didn’t see that). I had no idea that he was looking, and thought the phone was sufficiently hidden, but I guess I didn’t do a good enough job because when I turned to ask for a selfie, he smiled and told me he’d seen me google him. I told him I was embarrassed, and we laughed and took a selfie!”
So, all’s well that ends well! Janani says that, even though she was a little flustered about the whole thing, she was happy to break the ice with Cole.
“Even though I never thought he’d see me google him, I thought his reaction was extremely funny. I’m glad there were no hard feelings, and that I got to meet a childhood hero of mine!”
