I, Tonya has received a lot of praise for not only Margot Robbie’s portrayal of figure skater Tonya Harding, but for being a feel-real biopic. Allison Janney also won a Golden Globe for her role in the movie. But it all happens to be very ironic seeing as Tonya was involved in one of the biggest athletic scandals of all time.
This is Tonya Harding, 1991 U.S. Champion and World Championship Silver Medalist.
Last night she attended the Golden Globes.
Viewers immediately started questioning her presence because do remember of that time she commited a crime against Nancy Kerrigan.
Back in 1994, Tonya Harding was found guilty of being involved in an attack on her rival Nancy Kerrigan. Harding’s ex-husband hired the assailant who struck Nancy in the leg, forcing her to drop out of the national championship.
And then she was applauded during Allison Janney’s acceptance speech and that really got people feeling the feels.
For real, Nancy was the victim so why didn’t she get an invite?
But the people who know Tonya, possibly the ones that have seen this movie and know more about Tonya’s viewpoint, are here for her moment in the spotlight.
Though it all seems unfair to Nancy, there’s more to the story and hopefully watching the movie will justify Tonya’s presence at the Globes.
