For some brides, it can be a challenge to scrounge up enough close female friends to create a “complete” bridal party. You often lose touch with close childhood friends and college buddies, and it can be difficult to find coworkers that you actually mesh with on a level that is deeper than watercooler chitchat.
So, what’s a modern woman in love to do?
Apparently, just follow in the footsteps of Rebeca Sinohara, a 24-year-old from Itajubá, Brazil, and invite all of your “bros” to take part in your wedding festivities instead!
As a student in computer engineering, Sinohara has, sadly, very little access to other women within her program. So, she decided to gather her five closest guy friends to be her “bros-maids” and take part in a funny and heartwarming pre-wedding photoshoot.
Sinohara posted the photos to Facebook with the caption, “When the bride doesn’t have any girlfriends, it’s time to call her bros. This is what happens to a girl in Computer Engineering.”
Sinohara says she simply doesn’t have many women in her life that she feels close to, so inviting her male friends to help send her off on her wedding day made all the sense in the world.
“In my engineering classroom there were 56 guys and only four girls, so it’s not like I had a lot of choice,” she tells BuzzFeed.
“Of course I have girlfriends from childhood and high school but we are not as close as before, and there are some girls that I lived with in shared housing during university, but none of them I became BFFs with.”
Even though she didn’t have lots of female friends, Sinohara says that she still wanted the sense of camaraderie provided by a bridal party.
“I always knew that I wouldn’t have a gang of girls to be bridesmaids and to sit together putting on makeup and all before the event,” she says.
So, she decided to float the idea of an all-male bridal party to her guy friends. “They are really great friends, and I had no doubt they would do this for me.”
And, obviously, the guys totally went for it.
“The guys totally loved the idea right away.”
Sinohara says that all the guys were surprisingly at ease during the unapologetically girly photoshoot.
“The guys were all so happy in their pink robes. It was really funny.”
As for all of the attention that her photos are getting? Sinohara says it’s utterly unexpected.
“I definitely never thought it was going to go viral,” Sinohara says. “The pictures were supposed to be only for us, to keep as a good record.”
Sinohara’s then-fiancé (and now husband) was completely supportive of the idea, and thought the whole thing was super entertaining. “He was there during the photo shoot laughing the whole the time,” she tells BuzzFeed. “We all had a lot of fun in that day.
All five of the “bros-maids” attended Sinohara’s wedding, and even managed to fulfill the other unspoken duties of the bridal party.
“I can say for sure all the five guys cried,” Sinohara says. “I just reeeeally hope someone got that on camera.”
