Skittles are renowned for offering a delicious array of colorful candy—their slogan “Taste the rainbow” has been whispered across millions of tv screens for decades and we’ve come to expect a variety of taste in every handful of this sugary treat.
That being said, we were a bit confused as to why such a notoriously colorful candy company released an all-white package in celebration of Pride Month—the most rainbow friendly month of the year. Don’t worry, though, they have a pretty awesome reason.
Skittles released an all-white bag in honor of Pride Month.
The world-famous candy company ditched their signature rainbow colors in celebration of the LGBTQ community and equality. On the back of the bag of these limited edition white Skittles, the company writes “During Pride, only one rainbow matters. So we’ve given up ours to show support.” Skittles also released a statement saying, “Give the rainbow, taste the rainbow. All the lentils are white in celebration of pride. Enjoy the mystery mix.”
In addition to to their unique packaging, some of the proceeds of Skittles’ sales will be donated LGBTQ charities.
This isn’t the first time the candy company has gone monochromatic. In fact, they ran a similar campaign for Pride Month last year.
While they may not be rainbow in color, Skittles maintain the same fruity flavors and people are sharing their thoughts via social media.
Some people are also accusing Skittles of racism with their the all-white packaging, but I think it’s pretty safe to assume this was never their intent.
Personally, I find Skittles’ statement to be extremely beautiful and I can’t wait to get my very own package!
