Tragedy is never expected, it doesn’t ask when a convenient time would be for it to show up at your doorstep and wreak havoc on your life. It just happens, and it’s how the people close to you react to these difficult situations that shows their true character.
Popular comedian and father of five, Jim Gaffigan and his wife Jeanne recently went through a distressing ordeal when doctors found a sizable tumor on Jeanne’s brain. Fortunately, Jeanne is in recovery now, but Jim could not be more grateful to a close friend who made the couple’s anniversary extra special. Prepare yourself for the feels!
Back in May, popular comedian Jim Gaffigan shared that his wife, Jeanne, had undergone surgery to remove a life-threatening brain tumor.
The operation was understandably distressing for Gaffigan and his wife, along with their 5 children.
Fortunately, the tumor was successfully removed and Jeanne is on the road to recovery.
In an interview on Good Morning America, Gaffigan lightheartedly joked about his relief.
“Well, you know, I tell you, my wife had this health scare so it entered my mind that, you know, I would, you know, have to retire and be a very mediocre dad,” Gaffigan explained “but, yeah, it’s scary.”
“But, you know, luckily I’m married to Wonder Woman so…” he added.
Wonder woman indeed, congrats Jeanne!
Yesterday, Gaffigan and his wife celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary.
He captioned this special photo: “14 yrs ago today I married the love of my life, @jeanniegaffigan. Together we’ve created 5 children, 5 hour specials, 2 books, 2 seasons of a TV show and one massive brain tumor.”
*sniff* Im definitely not crying, okay!?
To commemorate the occasion, Gaffigan wanted to treat his wife to a nice dinner and asked their close friend and master chef Mario Batali for recommendations since Jeanne isn’t able to comfortably eat solids yet.
Not only did Mario send them to his own restaurant, he went out of his way to make sure the Gaffigans were taken care of with a custom menu.
Jim thanked him in this heartfelt Instagram post:
He captioned the photo:
“I realize we live in strange, maybe even mean times. Like you, I read the news daily shaking my head with horror how humans treat other humans. But there are some amazing people out there.
When @jeanniegaffigan was diagnosed with a brain tumor so many friends, family and strangers stepped up to offer meals, help, encouragement and prayers. It really blew me away. Thank you so much for everything.
One friend was @mariobatali who with his wife Suzi sent over numerous elaborate gourmet meals to feed me, the kids and our helpers.
Last week I emailed Mario asking him to hep me find a place for our 14th wedding anniversary. I was trying to find a nice place for us to celebrate but given Jeannie can not comfortably eat solids I was hoping to find a place that did amazing soups (yes,in July.) I knew Mario was on vacation but I hoped he could point me in the right direction. Mario responded insisting that we come to @delposto and that he would make sure we were well taken care of. When we arrived we saw that Mario had created a custom tasting menu of various gourmet soups with accompanied wines or cocktails. Of course the whole experience was insanely amazing but the generosity of kindness and compassion by Mario was most moving.
Needless to say, Mario went above the call of duty and Gaffigan was extremely grateful. His followers also loved the gesture of kindness.
So many happy tears.
