Apparently Dax Shepard once broke up with Kristen Bell for another girl, and I’m shaken to my core

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell are a rare celebrity couple whose love not only looks adorable and enviable, but also seems genuine and nuanced. Bell and Shepard are both fairly candid about their rough patches and their relationship’s imperfection, and this honesty is part of what makes them so darn likable.

Thank u to my hot date tonight, @daxshepard. I love date night with you. @goldenglobes #GoldenGlobes

It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Kristen Bell recently opened up about one of the lesser-known plot points in her courtship with Dax. However, the fact that this story involves Dax breaking up with Kristen so he could date another woman is truly mind-boggling.

Apparently, the incident in question occurred early on in the relationship (so no need to break out your pitchforks).

“We were dating for about three months, and I already knew that I was in love with him and he was hesitant because he knew he was still dating other people,” Bell explained during a recent interview with PopSugar. “He sat me down and said, ‘I can’t have this right now. I think you’re wonderful, but I am still dating other people.'”

Um, WHA?? This certainly isn’t the fairytale courtship experience I had envisioned.

“And then I, like, liquefied and fell to the ground, but I felt incredibly respected that he had the balls to tell me we weren’t in the same place,” Bell added. (To which I just have to say: SAME, GIRL.)

Fortunately for all of us who are weirdly invested in this union, Dax soon came to his senses and realized that he was throwing away his soul mate.

“He called me and he was like, ‘I don’t know what I was thinking. I was dating someone else but they’re just not as interesting as you, and I don’t know what I’m doing,’ and he came back,” Kristen recalled. “But I still always remind him of when he broke up with me.”

Welp, at least this is proof that a less-than-storybook beginning can result in a pretty sweet ending.
