Before proposing, Channing Tatum pulled a prank on his now-wife that almost got him dumped

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum are an objectively beautiful and adorable celebrity couple — but even they’ve had their rough patches, particularly when Channing decided to pull a prank on his wife which he now admits was probably “cruel.”

During a recent interview on BBC Radio 1, Channing admitted that he initially tried to throw Jenna off the scent when he was preparing to propose — unfortunately, he did so by pulling a prank which could very well have gotten him dumped.

“When I proposed to my wife I did something pretty cruel because I thought she was on to me,” he said. “I basically told her I never wanted to get married to try to throw her off. I told her, ‘I don’t believe in the institution of marriage and I don’t think I ever want to get married.'”

Apparently, Jenna didn’t react well. In fact, she apparently burst into tears. “She basically broke down crying,” Channing says. At that point, he pretty much knew he had to fess up if he didn’t want to lose the love of his life.

“I thought, ‘This is not going well at all,’ so I had to propose to her sooner rather than later.”

Fortunately, Jenna somehow (somehow) forgave him and accepted his proposal, and the two of them danced off into the sunset (more or less).

And guys everywhere, please take note: if you want to surprise a girl with a proposal, being mean to her probably isn’t the shrewdest move. Even if you do have a six-pack and some sweet pole-dancing moves.
