What happens when you’re forced to miss your homecoming dance due to circumstances beyond your control? Well, if you’re especially fortunate, your friends will find a way to bring the homecoming party to you.
17-year-old Blake Mounts from Hilliard, Ohio is currently undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia. Due to his treatment, he was not permitted to attend his high school homecoming this year — so, his friends surprised him by bringing a “F*** Cancer” homecoming right to his hospital room.
Blake’s buddies wore their homecoming outfits and even brought him a tux for the occasion.
His friend, Kaitlin O’Connor, asked him to be her date.
And, like any true homecoming, there were photo ops galore.
“I’ve been pent up in this room,” Blake told BuzzFeed. “It was nice to actually be wearing normal clothes and stuff and be with my friends all in the same room … It brought a little home to the hospital. It made me feel a little positive — I have a lot of people with my back.”
Blake’s younger sister, Taylor, originally came up with the idea, and says it was absolutely worth it to see his reaction.
“Honestly it was so amazing to see my brother so happy for the first time since he’s been in the hospital and it was the first time he had been out of his bed since then,” she told BuzzFeed.
Naturally, Twitter couldn’t help but get a little bit choked up by this true act of friendship.
Undergoing cancer treatment is a difficult and exhausting journey, but, thankfully, it seems like Blake has some world-class friends by his side who are ready to go to every possible length to make him smile.
